چکیده

Ziziphus mauritiana methanol crude extract was evaluated for its insecticidal properties against Aedes aegypti, Ae. albopictus, and Culex quinquefasciatus mosquito larvae. Bioassays larvae mosquitoes were done following World Health Organization’s guidelines. Late third and/or early fourth instar of larva assayed five different concentrations viz. 100, 150, 200, 250, 300 mg ml–1 Z. extracts. From the results obtained, aegypti most susceptible to The percentage mortality exhibited above 50% in 24, 48, 72 hr exposure. Thus, it gives lowest LC50 within 24 exposure (121.98 L–1), followed by albopictus (189.89 L–1) Cx. (246.22 L–1). Observation morphology effect dead shows affected, quinquefasciatus. A ruptured midgut observed 100 200 concentrations. In contrast, higher ml–1, abdominal segments indistinguishable, head thorax regions severely damaged. This study suggested that methanolic extracts potent have potential be used as an alternative larvicide population control. However, further studies are required establish larvicidal effects field setting.

Evaluation of mosquitocidal activity of Annona squamosa leaves against filarial vector mosquito, Culex quinquefasciatus Say.

Methanolic extract of leaves of A. squamosa was tested for mosquitocidal effect against C. quinquefasciatus. A liquid mosquito insecticide formulation was prepared with the extract (1, 3 and 5 %w/w) using deodorized kerosene as solvent and investigated for its knock-down and 24 hr mortality. The extract formulation produced dose dependent activity, exhibited significantly shorter knock down KD5...

Phytochemical screening and antibacterial activity of leaf Extract of Ziziphus mauritiana Lam

Ziziphus mauritiana Lam. is an important medicinal plant belonging to the family Rhamnaceae. Preliminary phytochemical screening of the leaf extract of Ziziphus mauritiana revealed presence of different types of secondary metabolites such as glycosides, tannins, phenols and saponins. The methanol leaf extracts of Ziziphus mauritiana showed significant activity against Staphylococcus aureusand E...

Larvicidal activity of Lawsonia inermis and Murraya exotica leaves extract on filarial vector, Culex quinquefasciatus

Extensive use of synthetic and chemical insecticides to control mosquitoes result in environment hazards and development of resistance in vector species. This research work is about an alternative mosquito control method that is considered as safe to environment and non-target species and also bio-degradable. Hence an attempt was made to study the larvicidal effect of the extract of Lawsonia in...

Frying stability of sunflower oil blended with jujube (Ziziphus mauritiana Lam.) leaf extract

The aim of present study was to compare the effects of ultrasound-assisted and microwave-assisted extraction with solvent extraction method on antioxidant activities of jujube (Ziziphus mauritiana Lam.) leaf extracts in stability of sunflower oil during deep frying. The antioxidant activities of the extracts were evaluated by using 2, 2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH˙) radical scavenging and β...

DsRed2 transient expression in Culex quinquefasciatus mosquitoes

Culex quinquefasciatus mosquitoes have been successfully genetically modified only once, despite the efforts of several laboratories to transform and establish a stable strain. We have developed a transient gene expression method, in Culex, that delivers plasmid DNA directly to the mosquito haemolymph and additional tissues. We were able to express DsRed2 fluorescent protein in adult Cx. quinqu...
